Curious Constructions devoloped and employed a new design methodology which emphasizes material performance, building requirements, and construction practices to design a collection of material-driven housing projects using innovative, sustainable assembly tactics.
With each of the six houses being driven by a specific material, the material assemby logics, as well as durability, servicability, maintnaince, circularity, embodied carbon, and constructability were interrogated to push strong material aesthetics. Additionally, each material aesthetic was not dependent only on the material itself but also on reaching high performance within cold climate zones.
Rather than pushing aesthetics through follies or open structures, the research elects the functionality and performance requirements of the domestic house, forcing aesthetics to engage not strictly with aesthetic intentions, but with building systems, R-values, air barriers, and proper building enclosure.
