An addition to the Taslik Coffee House, a public meeting place situated on the cliff over the Bosphorus Sea in Istanbul. The introduction of the wall and roof system turns the otherwise open courtyard into both a cloister and an enclosed, yet upward-opening garden.
The rammed earth walls become the central spatial element while still being part of the larger thermodynamic system of the Turkish courtyard. Allowing moisture to pass through and working as a thermal mass, the wall is integrated into the experience and responds to the microclimate of the garden.
